GOLD SILVER PRICE NEWS ~ Even as TSX today made a recovery, crude oil prices at West Texas Intermediate declined by $0.55 while the Brent crude increased by $1.05. Gold prices also decreased as it went down to around $1,496.40 per ounce. Financial shares increased recently as a rally was noted at the Toronto Stock Exchange today following the issuance of new capital rules by global regulators.

Monday saw the benchmark stock index of Canada increasing for the first time in the last four sessions as it offset losses earlier in the day. The S&P/TSX composite index increased by 0.45 percent as it closed 57.6 points higher in a rally where only one sub-index did not move up at the Toronto Stock Exchange today.

The financial segment increased by 0.67 percent at the TSX today. The TorontoDominion Bank led the increase of the financial segment at the TSX today as it increased by 1.16 percent. The Bank of Nova Scotia also increased by 1.45 percent while the Royal Bank of Canada declined by 0.04 percent at the TSX today.

A Vancouver money manager indicated that the market may be unstable this week as the deliberations at the Greek parliament on the proposed austerity measures were highlighted. The austerity measures are necessary in order to obtain additional aid from the EU and allow the country to avoid a default.

US markets also increased together with the recovery at the TSX today in spite of below par data on consumer spending which indicated minimal movement last May. The Dow Jones and the Nasdaq also increased by 0.91 percent and 1.33 percent as a recovery was noted at the TSX today.

Even as an increase was indicated at the TSX today, the junior Venture exchange in Canada decreased by 1.97 percent as it closed lower with 1,867.72. on the other hand, the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan and Agrium Inc increased by 3.1 percent and 2.57 percent respectively at the TSX today.
